Former NFL punter Kasey Redfern died on 13 October 2026 after being diagnosed with central nervous system lymphoma in 2023. His wife, Lauryl, said in a Facebook post on 26 September that his condition had deteriorated. “We’ve decided to move toward hospice care for Kasey,” she wrote. Lauryl said the family wanted to keep him as comfortable as possible after more than three years of treatment.

Redfern played kicker and punter at Wofford College from 2010 to 2013. He signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2014. He later spent time with the San Diego Chargers, Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Falcons. He appeared in four NFL games, making his debut with Detroit in 2017. He also spent three weeks with Atlanta in 2019.

Lauryl said Redfern had experienced falls, vomiting and a decline in short-term memory in the weeks before her post. She said a discussion with Dr Fanning had led the family towards hospice care. Lauryl attributed his cognitive decline to the effects of treatment and said he remained at home when she shared the update. The couple had two sons, Ollie and Logan.
