HONOLULU MEDICAL EXAMINER RECORDS JENNIFER LUPTON'S DEATH AS SUICIDE

FRI 16 OCT 2026

The City of Honolulu Department of the Medical Examiner has recorded Southwest Airlines flight attendant Jennifer Lupton’s death as suicide. The department said on Thursday that she died from multiple injuries after falling from a hotel balcony in Honolulu, Hawaii. Lupton was staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village resort during a Southwest Airlines layover on 19 August. A hotel employee found her body beside a dumpster the following morning.

The fall covered 24 floors. Lupton had worked for Southwest Airlines for many years. Her sister, Tresa Lupton, said they had been in regular contact before Jennifer’s death. Tresa said in a Facebook post that Jennifer had been enjoying her time in Hawaii. The family rejects both suicide and an accidental fall as explanations for her death.

The Honolulu Police Department says it continues to investigate the circumstances of Lupton’s death. Tresa says police hold potentially important evidence that the medical examiner has yet to receive. The family says officials are reaching conclusions before reviewing evidence that could bear on the case. Relatives have also referred to other deaths in Honolulu in “troubling circumstances”, without identifying those cases.
