ARSENAL PLANS UP TO 60 JOB CUTS

FRI 16 OCT 2026

Arsenal has told staff it plans to cut up to 60 jobs across several departments. Richard Garlick informed employees this week after a review that began before the end of last season. Mikel Arteta said the review had been explained to him as an effort to “evolve to improve”. He said some decisions would help Arsenal put people in the right roles and continue investing. Arteta said he was not the right person to answer questions about the expected job losses.

The proposed cuts could affect up to seven per cent of Arsenal’s 871 permanent staff, according to workforce figures cited in the accounts of the plan. Catering and travel are among the departments affected. The men’s and women’s first-team playing, performance and coaching staff are outside the review. The academy, Arsenal Women, Arsenal in the Community, the Arsenal Foundation and site security teams are also exempt. Arsenal hopes to reduce the number of redundancies and redeploy affected employees where possible.

The proposal follows last week’s announcement of a new four-year contract for Arteta, who oversaw Arsenal’s first Premier League title since 2004. Reported figures for the deal’s annual value differ, placing it at up to £20m or above £20m. Arsenal says the restructuring process began before it announced the contract. The club’s reported turnover for 2024-25 reached a record £691m. Arteta declined to answer further questions about the cuts at his news conference before Arsenal’s league match against Nottingham Forest.
