NHS ENGLAND GUIDANCE EXCLUDES TRANS WOMEN FROM FEMALE WARDS
NHS England has issued guidance confirming that trans women are excluded from female-only hospital wards. The guidance also tells hospitals and GP surgeries to segregate toilets and changing rooms by biological sex, NHS England said.
The guidance follows the Supreme Court's ruling in April 2025 that sex under the Equality Act 2010 means biological sex, around 18 months earlier. NHS England said single-sex services should be organised accordingly.
