FOUR ARRESTED OVER SHOOTING OF 49ERS PLAYER KEION WHITE

Police have arrested four men in connection with the shooting of San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Keion White, who was shot in the ankle outside a San Francisco nightclub during a private Super Bowl party in the early hours of 9 February. San Francisco Police Chief Derrick Lew said investigators used video footage and witness statements to identify multiple suspects who confronted White before the shooting, which he described as beginning with a confrontation that led to a physical altercation. Authorities carried out more than 50 search warrants across California and Georgia, with assistance from more than 250 law enforcement officers, according to one account. San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said Gregory Walker, arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department, is accused of being the gunman, facing charges including causing great bodily injury and firearm possession offences as a felon; one report said he will be charged with assault with a semiautomatic firearm that prosecutors say he fired.

Curtis Green was arrested on misdemeanour weapons charges, with one report placing the arrest in San Francisco and another in Irvine, California, on 7 October. Marquis Davis was arrested by Atlanta police and reportedly found in possession of prohibited substances, while Stockton police arrested Antoine Washington, allegedly found with a loaded firearm and prohibited substances. Lew said the arrests, carried out with help from law enforcement in Atlanta, Stockton, Irvine and Los Angeles, took place over the past week. Jenkins said the city would not tolerate gun violence and thanked San Francisco police for holding those involved accountable.

White underwent surgery and a period of recovery following the shooting. He has since appeared in all five of the 49ers' games this season, recording three sacks, according to one report. Two other men arrested in other jurisdictions had not yet been taken into local custody, the report said.
