NFL RULES ZXAVIAN HARRIS ELIGIBLE TO SIGN AS FREE AGENT

TUE 13 OCT 2026 US SPORTS

The NFL has ruled that defensive tackle Zxavian Harris is eligible to visit, try out for or sign with any team as a free agent, reversing an earlier decision. The league informed teams of the change in a memo issued on Monday, according to a report citing Tom Pelissero. Harris had been ruled ineligible in September after attempting to join LSU's team, having spent part of the offseason with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent signing. According to the memo, the NFL determined that Harris did not take part in football activities at college level after the Saints waived him in August.

Harris previously played at Ole Miss, where he recorded 58 tackles, nine tackles for loss, three sacks and an interception last season. He was one of two players who attempted to join LSU this summer after being cut by NFL teams. Tight end Dae'Quan Wright, who had been on the Cleveland Browns' roster, also tried to join LSU and was ruled ineligible by the league alongside Harris. Harris was ultimately left off LSU's roster following the dispute over his eligibility.

The NFL's memo clears the way for Harris to sign with any NFL team as a free agent going forward. There has been no update from the league regarding a change to Wright's eligibility status. Harris is now able to pursue opportunities to return to the NFL after the period spent attempting to play at college level.
