MUSK GIVES $276M TO REPUBLICAN MIDTERM EFFORTS SINCE JULY

TUE 13 OCT 2026

Elon Musk has donated more than $276 million to Republican political groups since July, according to a report by The New York Times, making him the party's largest known donor for the midterm elections. The bulk of that sum, $158 million, went to the Senate Leadership Fund, a super PAC working to secure and maintain a Republican majority in the Senate, including efforts to retain the party's Senate seat in Texas, where Musk bases much of his business operations. Musk also gave more than $76 million to America PAC, a super PAC he founded in 2024 that focuses on reaching Republican voters who are otherwise difficult to contact, the report said.

Smaller donations went to several other conservative organisations, the report said. These included $20 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund, which supports House Republicans, $10 million to the Lone Star Liberty PAC backing Ken Paxton's bid for a Texas Senate seat, $10 million to the Republican Governors Association and $2 million to the Republican Attorneys General Association. Across the full 2025-26 election cycle, Musk's donations to federal committees total around $366 million, according to the report, exceeding the $290 million he gave in 2024 to support Donald Trump's return to office.

The figure comes after Musk said in May last year that he intended to reduce his political spending, telling an interviewer he would "do a lot less in the future." According to the report, Musk has not followed through on that statement, with his midterm donations instead surpassing his 2024 election spending. The Senate Leadership Fund contribution is described in the report as one of the largest single political donations in American history. No further statements from Musk regarding future donation plans were included in the report.
