FITZPATRICK HIT LEAVES BROWNS' CONCEPCION WITH CONCUSSION

New York Jets safety Minkah Fitzpatrick made helmet-to-helmet contact with Cleveland Browns rookie receiver KC Concepcion during their Week 5 meeting at MetLife Stadium on 11 October, knocking him to the ground as he appeared to complete a catch from quarterback Deshaun Watson. Concepcion lay motionless on the turf before medical staff attended to him, and he later walked to the locker room under his own power. The Browns ruled him out of the game with a head injury, later confirmed as a concussion, and he did not return for the remaining three quarters. Fitzpatrick was flagged for a personal foul for contact with a defenceless receiver, having also been penalised for a facemask on Concepcion earlier in the same possession, an incident in which the rookie's helmet was pulled off. The Jets went on to beat the Browns 17-12, ending Cleveland's three-game winning streak and dropping their record to 3-2.

Concepcion, selected 24th overall by the Browns in the 2026 NFL draft out of Texas A&M, had recorded 144 yards on 17 receptions before the hit. Former Browns offensive tackle Chris Hubbard said on The Dawgs Podcast that he had faced Fitzpatrick multiple times and had seen him deliver hits he considered late and questionable, adding he wanted to know Fitzpatrick's intentions. Browns fans voiced anger towards Fitzpatrick over what they viewed as rough play, according to reports, with some recalling his time at the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2019 to 2024, when he was involved in a low tackle on former Browns running back Nick Chubb that caused a serious knee injury.

Browns head coach Todd Monken said he did not believe Fitzpatrick intended to injure Concepcion, describing the collision as a fast, unfortunate play. Monken said Fitzpatrick had been in the league a long time and was not a dirty player, adding that it was unfortunate it happened to his player. No further timetable for Concepcion's return has been reported.
