ONE DEAD AFTER SIX FLAGS OVER GEORGIA ROLLER COASTER INCIDENT

One person has died and several others were injured following an incident involving a roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia, according to the Cobb County Police Department. The park is located roughly 15 miles northwest of Atlanta. Police said the incident happened on Monday afternoon, and detectives from the department's major crimes unit are investigating. Officials have not confirmed how the person died or what caused the injuries to the other visitors. A spokesperson for Six Flags said the park and local authorities responded immediately and that the company is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation. "We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today," the spokesperson said. One outlet reported that the roller coaster involved was the park's largest, and that Six Flags evacuated the ride afterwards.

The investigation forms part of a wider pattern of safety concerns raised against Six Flags rides in recent months. Last month, Six Flags Magic Mountain in Southern California announced it was retiring its X2 roller coaster amid lawsuits alleging serious brain injury caused by the ride. The company recently settled a wrongful-death lawsuit brought by the family of a 22-year-old man who died after riding that coaster in 2022, and three further lawsuits alleging traumatic brain injuries were filed against Six Flags last week.

Roller coaster safety has drawn scrutiny elsewhere in the industry over the past year. In 2025, a 32-year-old man died after riding a high-speed roller coaster at the Universal Epic Universe theme park in Florida, with a medical examiner ruling the death accidental due to blunt impact injuries. Cobb County police have not indicated when their investigation into the Six Flags Over Georgia incident will conclude. Six Flags has not said whether the affected ride will remain closed pending the outcome.
