ANALYST BLAMES HARBAUGH CALL FOR CHARGERS' FIFTH STRAIGHT LOSS

MON 12 OCT 2026 US SPORTS

The Los Angeles Chargers lost to the Denver Broncos, extending their losing run to five games, and CBS Sports analyst Pete Prisco said head coach Jim Harbaugh's decision-making cost his team the result. Prisco said Harbaugh chose to go for it on fourth-and-one from the Chargers' own 41-yard line rather than punt, with Los Angeles leading 17-10. Quarterback Justin Herbert failed to convert the yard needed, handing Denver the ball in Chargers territory. Prisco said the Broncos' offence had done little before that point and credited the turnover for changing the course of the game.

Denver quarterback Bo Nix completed a 13-yard pass to Courtland Sutton to move the chains, and later threw a five-yard touchdown pass to Sutton, levelling the score at 17-17 with under nine minutes remaining. Prisco said the loss should not be blamed on the Chargers' offensive performance or on injuries, naming Harbaugh's fourth-down decision as the cause. The Chargers were held scoreless in the fourth quarter despite entering it with a 17-10 lead. Their offence finished with 237 total yards, including 155 rushing yards from 34 carries at 4.6 yards per attempt.

Harbaugh said after the match that the decision was wrong and said he took full responsibility for it. He said he could not recall a time he had been angrier at himself, adding that the team had worked hard and played well. Harbaugh said the call shifted the momentum of the game. No further comment on changes to in-game decision-making has been reported.
