GIBBS SETS NFL RECORD FOR MOST TOUCHDOWNS BEFORE AGE 25

MON 12 OCT 2026 US SPORTS

Jahmyr Gibbs set a new National Football League record for touchdowns scored before the age of 25, according to a report. The Detroit Lions running back reached the milestone with a three-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter of a game against the Arizona Cardinals. The score took Gibbs to 58 career touchdowns, the report said. That total moved him past the previous record of 57, held by Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders. Gibbs had tied Sanders' mark earlier in the same game before claiming it outright.

Detroit dominated the contest after a slow start, according to the report. The Lions were held scoreless in the first quarter but then scored on each of their final seven possessions. Six of those seven scoring drives ended in touchdowns, the report said. By midway through the fourth quarter, Detroit led Arizona 45-14. The result underlined a high-scoring performance built around Gibbs and the Lions' offence.

Gibbs will not turn 25 until next March, meaning he has further opportunities to extend his record during the remainder of the current season, according to a separate report. Twelve games remained on Detroit's schedule at the time of that report, giving Gibbs additional chances to add to his touchdown tally before reaching the age threshold. Sanders set his previous record of 57 touchdowns before turning 25 earlier in his own career, the report said. Gibbs now holds the record outright, having both equalled and then surpassed Sanders' total within the same game, the report said.
