SUN 11 OCT 2026 US SPORTS

Tate Sandell kicked a 47-yard field goal on the final play as Oklahoma defeated top-ranked Texas 27-24 in the Red River rivalry game in Dallas on Saturday. The win took Oklahoma to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Southeastern Conference, marking their first victory over a No 1-ranked team since they beat Missouri 38-17 in 2007. Texas, who moved to 4-1 and 1-1 in the conference, had two late opportunities to respond. Gianni Spetic missed a 53-yard field-goal attempt with 1:55 remaining, and quarterback Arch Manning's final pass was intercepted by Courtland Guillory with 19 seconds left. That interception set up the Oklahoma drive that ended in Sandell's winning kick.

Oklahoma overcame recurring offensive difficulties by scoring through special teams and defence. Dakoda Fields recovered a blocked punt in the end zone, while Peyton Bowen returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown after Manning, scrambling under pressure, threw toward Cam Coleman but was intercepted instead, putting Oklahoma ahead 24-17 with 10:07 left. Texas tied the game with a 75-yard drive capped by Manning's third touchdown pass of the night, a 15-yard throw to Jermaine Bishop Jr with 6:32 remaining. Manning finished 19 of 31 for 260 yards, while Oklahoma's John Mateer completed 18 of 26 passes for 155 yards, including two completions to Isaiah Sategna on the game-winning drive that were upheld on replay review.

The result followed a 41-13 defeat for Oklahoma at No 2 Georgia two weeks earlier and ended a run in which the Sooners had been 0-4-1 against top-ranked Texas teams. Oklahoma's total offence of 238 yards fell well short of their season average of 321, which had ranked last in the conference entering the game. The victory snapped Texas's position at the top of the rankings following the Red River meeting.
