USWNT LOSE 2-0 TO SPAIN AFTER MISSED PENALTY
The United States women's national team lost 2-0 to Spain, missing a penalty and failing to convert several chances despite dominating in expected goals, according to reports. Emma Hayes said she would not attribute the result to bad luck, saying "unlucky is being struck by lightning". The defeat was only the third time in 96 matches over five and a half years that the United States had trailed by more than one goal, one report noted.
Sophia Wilson's performance was described as a sign of renewed form ahead of a rematch against Spain on Tuesday.
