LONGLEVENS AFC WINS £1 MILLION LOTTO JACKPOT

FRI 09 OCT 2026

Longlevens AFC, an amateur football club in Gloucester, has won £1 million on the National Lottery's Lotto game, according to club president Bill Davis. Davis bought the winning ticket on behalf of the club, matching five main numbers plus the bonus ball in a draw held last month. The winning numbers were 1, 9, 15, 21, 32 and 51. Davis said the prize belongs to the club rather than to him as an individual, as he has played the line for decades as a club representative rather than in a personal capacity. He said he could not think of a better use for the money than helping to secure the club's future.

Davis first joined Longlevens AFC in the 1970s, playing for several of the club's teams before taking on committee roles, including working behind the bar, and now serves as the club's president. He worked in manufacturing before retiring. According to Davis, the winning numbers were chosen when the National Lottery first launched, when six committee members each picked one number, and the club has played the same line in every draw since. He said some of those committee members have since died. Davis credited his wife, Linda, and sons Stephen and Andrew, who now sit on the club committee, with supporting his decades-long involvement.

Davis described football as one of three main priorities in his life, alongside family and work, adding that his wife might disagree with the order. He said the win reflects around half a century of personal connection to the club. Davis said he intends the money to help secure Longlevens AFC's future for generations to come. He said he and his family plan to celebrate the win together.
