APPLE SCHEDULES OCTOBER 13 EVENT FOR SMART HOME PRODUCTS

THU 08 OCT 2026 AI

Apple has announced an event for 13 October at 9am ET in Tribeca, New York, using the tagline "Welcome home" in its invitation. The company said in its invite that it looks forward to "welcoming you to an Apple Experience." Both reports said the event is expected to focus on smart home products. Reports said Apple is expected to unveil a long-rumoured smart home hub with a display, alongside updated versions of the Apple TV and HomePod mini. One report named the device the "HomePad" and said it is expected to feature a seven-inch display and a new operating system referred to as "homeOS."

Reports said the smart home hub has been delayed for years, with Bloomberg's Mark Gurman cited as reporting that Apple held back the device until its AI-powered Siri was ready. One report said that Siri AI launched last month with a beta tag, which it said has cleared the way for Apple's smart home push. Rumoured features for the hub include face and voice recognition to personalise content, along with support for FaceTime calls, video and music streaming, and intercom communication with other devices. One report said Apple is working with LG on new smart home devices to launch alongside its own products, including a video doorbell, thermostat and indoor camera, and said renders of some of these devices had leaked. The refreshed Apple TV and HomePod mini are expected to receive updated specifications to support Siri AI, with one report citing beta code suggesting the HomePod mini could gain a display with an interface similar to the Apple Watch.

The event follows Apple's other autumn announcements, with one report noting the company is also due to release its first foldable phone within weeks. Neither report gave a confirmed name or price for the smart home hub ahead of the 13 October event. Both accounts described the products as based on rumour and prior reporting rather than confirmed by Apple beyond the event invitation itself. Further details are expected to be confirmed at the New York event.
