OPENAI ROLLS OUT INTELLIGENT UI FEATURE FOR CHATGPT WITH GPT-6

OpenAI has begun rolling out a new feature called Intelligent UI for ChatGPT, which lets the chatbot respond to questions with interactive visuals, including diagrams, charts, forms and tappable buttons, alongside its usual text answers. The feature runs on GPT-6, the model OpenAI says it is now bringing to ChatGPT after announcing the GPT-6 models last month. OpenAI said in a blog post that it trained GPT-6 to decide when to generate interactive visuals rather than plain text, and how to format them within a response. Examples shared by OpenAI include a diagram of a seven-speed bicycle with buttons that highlight different parts, and a Mahjong tutorial that displays tiles sorted into scrollable categories. Users can also ask ChatGPT to generate tools such as a retirement savings calculator, a retro game or a bill-splitter, which then appear directly within the chat.

According to OpenAI, Intelligent UI is designed so that users do not need any knowledge of app development to benefit from it, since the interactive elements are generated automatically in response to ordinary questions typed into the standard chat interface. One reported example involved a user asking how much they could save for retirement, prompting ChatGPT to produce a calculator with adjustable sliders for variables including retirement age, monthly savings and assumed annual growth. OpenAI said GPT-6 also improves ChatGPT's web searches and allows it to give quicker, partial answers while it continues gathering information. The company added that GPT-6 "showed stronger resistance to attempts to bypass its safety training", according to its own statement.

OpenAI said GPT-6 with Intelligent UI is rolling out globally starting this week to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users, with availability extending to Go and free-tier users from Thursday, according to the company. The feature is intended to apply across all ChatGPT membership tiers, including the free tier, once the rollout is complete. OpenAI has not set out further changes beyond the stated rollout schedule in its announcement.
