EAGLES TRADE CAM JURGENS TO RAVENS IN MIDSEASON DEAL

The Philadelphia Eagles traded centre Cam Jurgens to the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday 7 October, sending him and a 2027 seventh-round pick to Baltimore in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said the team had not been looking to move Jurgens but struck the deal with the Ravens, who had been seeking a centre, over the course of 24 hours. Roseman said the trade gave the Eagles the chance to add a two-time Pro Bowl centre's value in draft capital while freeing up money to sign other players. He added that Drew Kendall, now set to take over at centre, had been playing well in practice. The move came one day after Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson announced his retirement.

Jurgens, selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft as the intended successor to Jason Kelce, made 62 appearances including 45 starts for the Eagles across five seasons. He earned two Pro Bowl selections, in 2024 and 2025, and won a Super Bowl ring as part of the team's Super Bowl LIX championship roster. Eagles offensive tackle Jordan Mailata, one of the team's captains, said players were not given advance notice of the trade. Mailata said he and Jurgens "shared a moment" and cried together before Jurgens departed, describing it as a chance to reflect on games won and lost together.

The trade leaves the Eagles without two starters from their championship-winning offensive line within the space of two days, a change reporting has linked to questions over the team's plans for the rest of the season. Roseman said the draft picks acquired, which he said give the Eagles four selections in the top 64 of the 2028 draft, provide the team with resources to build around quarterback Jalen Hurts or pursue other additions in future drafts. Jurgens has since reported to the Ravens' camp following the trade.
