ARTETA SIGNS NEW ARSENAL CONTRACT UNTIL 2030
Mikel Arteta has signed a new four-year contract with Arsenal, extending his stay at the Emirates Stadium until 2030. The deal replaces his previous contract, which had been due to expire at the end of the 2027/28 season. Talks over the extension had been ongoing for several months before terms were agreed. The new contract has been signed but remains subject to the normal regulatory process, according to reports. Speaking after putting pen to paper, Arteta said the club wants "a winning era," according to Sky Sports.
Arteta took over as Arsenal's head coach in December 2019, succeeding Unai Emery, and was made manager the following September when the club restructured its football staff. He won the FA Cup in August 2020, beating Chelsea 2-1 in the final, and lifted the Community Shield days later after a penalty shootout win over Liverpool. Arsenal finished as Premier League runners-up for three consecutive seasons, behind Manchester City in 2023, Liverpool in 2024 and Manchester City again in 2025. The club went on to win the Premier League title in May 2026, ending a 22-year wait for the trophy. Arteta was named the Premier League's manager of the season for that campaign. Arsenal were beaten by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final on 30 May 2026.
The new contract is reported to take Arteta towards a decade in charge of Arsenal by the time it expires. The 2026/27 season is his eighth full campaign at the club, and the first to begin with Arsenal as reigning Premier League champions. Arsenal supporters are reported to be hopeful the club's recent success can continue now Arteta has committed his long-term future to the club. No financial details of the new deal have been disclosed.
