WED 07 OCT 2026 CRIME

A woman found dead at her home in Fern Hill, Dersingham, Norfolk, on Sunday has been named locally as GP Dr Hannah Terry, also known as Hannah Cain. Norfolk Police said officers were called to the property by the ambulance service just after 02:20 BST. A man was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken into custody, before being granted an additional 32 hours' detention at a hearing at Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court on Monday. According to reports, he has since been charged with murder and named as her husband. Police have not confirmed Terry's identity.

Terry is listed as a member of the practice team at Grimston Medical Centre, which said it was "temporarily closed due to extremely difficult circumstances affecting our practice team." Some reports described her as a GP to the Royal Family, with her home said to be near the Sandringham estate; these details have not been confirmed elsewhere. A cordon remained in place outside the house, and a Home Office post-mortem examination was due to take place on Monday. The Norfolk and Waveney Local Medical Committee, which represents NHS GPs, said it was "deeply saddened" and described her as "a wonderful GP dedicated to providing excellent care for her patients."

Detective Inspector Alix Wright, of the Norfolk and Suffolk major investigation team, said officers were in the early stages of the investigation and were working to establish the circumstances surrounding Terry's death. Wright appealed for anyone with relevant information to come forward. The Local Medical Committee said its thoughts were with Terry's loved ones and colleagues at what it called a difficult time. Norfolk Police have not released details of the charge against the man.
