DONALD TRUMP SENDS MESSAGE TO INJURED LAMAR JACKSON
Donald Trump travelled to Sparrows Point in Maryland to promote a new submarine factory as part of a defence manufacturing investment. Members of the Baltimore Ravens attended the event and were featured during his remarks. Trump referred to the players' salaries and the team's 3-1 record before asking them to stand. He then addressed the absence of quarterback Lamar Jackson, who was not present. According to footage captured by journalist Aaron Rupar, Trump said: "What a team you have. You have a great team this year. Say hello to your quarterback. He's a little bit injured. Tell him I know his mother. I met his mother a few times in Palm Beach, and she's a fantastic, beautiful woman. But give him my regards. He is some player."
Jackson injured his ankle on a sack late in the second quarter of Sunday's 24-18 win over the Tennessee Titans and did not return to the game. Before leaving, he had completed 15 of 20 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns. NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that Jackson suffered an "unconventional ankle sprain" and has only an "outside chance" of playing against the Atlanta Falcons. Head coach Jesse Minter, in his first season leading the team, said on Monday that the coaching staff was still reviewing information and imaging on the injury, according to ESPN's Jamison Hensley. Minter said he did not yet know Jackson's chances of playing but expressed "full trust and confidence" in him once he is ready to return. He added that he did not think the issue would be "crazy long term," though he said "we'll see what happens."
Through four games this season, Jackson has completed 70.8 per cent of his passes for 967 yards, six touchdowns and one interception, leading the league in yards per attempt and yards per completion. Backup quarterback Tyler Huntley took over against Tennessee and completed eight of nine passes for 63 yards. Should Jackson be unable to play, Huntley is set to start when the Ravens face the Falcons in their Week 5 matchup. Minter said the coaching staff would continue assessing Jackson's recovery in the lead-up to that game.
