TEXAS TECH RUNNING BACK CAMERON DICKEY SUFFERS ANKLE INJURY AGAINST COLORADO
Texas Tech running back Cameron Dickey suffered a left ankle injury during the Red Raiders' game against Colorado, head coach Joey McGuire said. Dickey was hurt in the second quarter when a Colorado defender tackled him as he tried to extend a four-yard run. He tried to walk off unaided but collapsed, and training staff helped him off the field before he was taken to the locker room and later seen in a wheelchair. McGuire said X-rays came back negative and the injury is most likely a high ankle sprain. According to On3's Pete Nakos, there is no clear timetable for Dickey's return.
Dickey had made little impact in the first quarter before he was hurt, but his absence was felt in Texas Tech's short-yardage situations afterwards. The team failed to convert two separate fourth-and-one attempts in the second quarter, first with J'Koby Williams and then with Quinten Joyner. Colorado led 7-3 at halftime following those stops. Facing a similar situation in the fourth quarter, McGuire opted to kick rather than run a play, and Stone Harrington converted a 46-yard field goal to put the Red Raiders ahead 15-7.
Texas Tech has posted a 5-0 record this season after a string of injuries, according to the report. Dickey has rushed for 242 yards and five touchdowns on 57 carries across five games, with his best outing coming against Sam Houston State, where he gained 91 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. Pete Nakos reported that Dickey's injury is not expected to end his season, though no return date has been confirmed. In his absence, Williams and Joyner combined for 151 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries against Colorado.
