SEAHAWKS SIGN FREE AGENT RUNNING BACK JOE MIXON TO PRACTICE SQUAD
The Seattle Seahawks are signing free agent running back Joe Mixon to their practice squad, according to the team. Head coach Mike Macdonald said the Seahawks worked Mixon out on Monday and are "going through the process" of adding him to the squad. Mixon has not played in a game since January 2025, having missed the entire most recent season because of a foot injury. The Houston Texans released him in March. Other outlets reported that Mixon worked out for Seattle on Monday, corroborating the Seahawks' account.
The move follows roster changes among Seattle's running backs. The Seahawks placed Jadarian Price on injured reserve last week, while Zach Charbonnet had his 21-day return-to-practice window opened after an ACL tear suffered in the playoffs ended his season. George Holani, Emanuel Wilson and Velus Jones Jr. currently make up the running backs on Seattle's active roster. Mixon was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the second round of the 2017 draft and spent his first seven seasons with the club. He has rushed for 7,428 yards in his career, with five 1,000-yard seasons.
Mixon's most productive recent season came in 2024 with the Texans, when he rushed for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns in his first year with the team, earning a Pro Bowl selection. His practice squad move with Seattle would mark his return to football activity after a season sidelined by injury. The Seahawks have not confirmed a timeline for Mixon to join the active roster.
