JAGUARS BEAT BENGALS 22-17 AS BURROW THROWS 428 YARDS
The Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 22-17, with the result decided on a fourth-and-10 stop in the final minute. Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow drove his team to the Jaguars' 21-yard line with passes to Mitchell Tinsley, Mike Gesicki and Dohnte Meyers covering 62 yards. Three consecutive incomplete passes left Cincinnati facing fourth down, and Burrow's pass to running back Chase Brown was stopped one yard short of the line by defensive back Rayuan Lane. Burrow finished with 428 passing yards but threw two interceptions, including one in the red zone that prevented the Bengals from taking their first lead of the game. A third interception was wiped out by a roughing-the-passer penalty on Jaguars defensive lineman Arik Armstead.
Burrow played the closing stages without his two leading receivers. Ja'Marr Chase was ruled out after a concussion evaluation in the second quarter, and Tee Higgins went to the medical tent late in the fourth quarter. Jacksonville appeared set to run out the clock before wide receiver Parker Washington gained 39 yards on a third-down play after the two-minute warning, but replays showed he stepped out of bounds short of the first down marker, forcing a Jaguars punt. The Jaguars' defence held firm on the Bengals' final drive to secure the win. The defeat was Cincinnati's second in a row this season.
The loss leaves the Bengals at 2-2 following back-to-back defeats, while the Jaguars improve to 3-1. Reaction from NFL supporters following the game was critical of Bengals head coach Zac Taylor over comments about looking for "silver linings" after the defeat. No further fixtures or team decisions were confirmed in the reporting.
