SURTAIN LIMPS OFF WITH ANKLE INJURY IN BRONCOS-49ERS GAME

MON 05 OCT 2026 US SPORTS

Denver Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain II left Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers after sustaining a non-contact ankle injury, according to NBC Sports. The injury occurred while Surtain was in coverage during the 49ers' final offensive possession of the second quarter. He limped off the field and required assistance from the Broncos' medical staff to reach the locker room. Yahoo Sports reported that Surtain needed help from two medical trainers to leave the field after receiving on-field treatment. The Broncos later listed him as questionable to return.

The 49ers' drive continued after Surtain's departure, reaching the point where the team attempted a field goal on the final play of the half. San Francisco kicker Eddy Pineiro had his attempt blocked, and the two sides went into halftime level at 3-3. NBC Sports reported that both offences had struggled to move the ball consistently through the first half, though the 49ers held an edge with 190 yards gained and nine first downs. Surtain had been covering the 49ers' offence at the time of the injury.

NBC Sports suggested that San Francisco could find greater offensive success in the second half if Surtain remains unable to return. No further update on his status or the final outcome of the game was included in the reporting. The extent of the injury and any diagnosis had not been confirmed at the time of the report.
