GIRL, 12, KILLED IN BALTIMORE SHOOTING OVER PARKING SPACE DISPUTE

SUN 04 OCT 2026 CRIME

A 12-year-old girl was killed in Baltimore over the weekend after two men opened fire on each other during an apparent dispute over a parking space, Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley said. The shooting happened in a park where children were watching an American football game, according to police. The girl, who police have not named, was caught in the crossfire and was not the intended target, Worley said. She was pronounced dead in hospital. Worley said the men had engaged in "some type of argument" before opening fire on each other, describing them as "two cowards."

Officers who responded to the scene also found a woman with gunshot wounds, police said. Two men later sought treatment at hospitals in the area for injuries believed to be linked to the shooting, according to police. The three adults are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Worley said. The shooting happened after 18:00 local time (23:00 BST) on Saturday, police said. Worley said it remains unclear how many shots were fired. Police said they are searching for at least two suspects, and no arrests have been made.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott described the shooting as "one of the most disgusting things" he had seen, saying an argument between two grown men should never have ended in a child's death. Scott said at the same news conference that such a loss should never have to be reported. Police have asked anyone with information about the shooting to come forward as the investigation continues. Worley said detectives are still working to establish the full circumstances of the shooting. No further details on the suspects or the dispute have been released.
