DEION SANDERS CUTS THREE PLAYERS AS COLORADO LOSE THIRD STRAIGHT GAME
Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders has overseen a third consecutive defeat, losing 29-7 at home to tenth-ranked Texas Tech. Colorado led 7-3 at halftime but failed to score again, conceding turnovers on four consecutive possessions after the break. Isaac Wilson, brother of NFL quarterback Zach Wilson, started at quarterback in place of Julian Lewis and threw three interceptions. The defeat came in the same week that Sanders permanently removed three defensive backs, Jah Jah Boyd, Justin Eaglin and Paul Omodia, from the roster.
Sanders said the dismissals followed conduct he described as detrimental to the team after a defeat to Northwestern, saying he would not tolerate players finding "a laughing matter" behind his back in the locker room. Boyd, Eaglin and Omodia had all joined Colorado as transfer defensive backs ahead of the 2026 season, and a source described the dismissals as "a done deal" on 3 October. Colorado's secondary was further depleted by injuries to Makari Vickers, Jason Stokes Jr. and Braylon Edwards, who were sidelined for the Texas Tech game. Boo Carter, Randon Fontenette and Naeten Mitchell started in the secondary, with less experienced players filling out the bench.
The result leaves Colorado with a 2-3 record for the season, having opened with consecutive wins, including a victory at Georgia Tech, before three straight defeats. The Buffaloes are already 0-1 in Big 12 conference play, according to reports. Colorado face further ranked opponents in 13th-ranked Utah and 19th-ranked Oklahoma State in their next two fixtures. Reports describe the Texas Tech game as a pivotal fixture for Colorado's season, with the team needing four more wins to reach a bowl game.
