MISSISSIPPI STATE QB TAYLOR HURT IN LOSS TO ALABAMA

SAT 03 OCT 2026 US SPORTS

Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor left Saturday's 56-23 defeat to Alabama with an injury, head coach Jeff Lebby said after the game. Lebby told reporters Taylor's status would be "day-to-day" and that Wednesday's injury report ahead of the Bulldogs' game against LSU would clarify his condition. Taylor was seen limping after throwing a touchdown pass with 2:38 left in the third quarter at Davis Wade Stadium. He left the field during the fourth quarter and was replaced by backup Parker Puckett. Taylor later returned to the sideline wearing a protective walking boot on his right foot.

Taylor had worn a walking boot the day before the Alabama game and had also been seen limping following Mississippi State's win over Missouri, though it has not been confirmed whether the two issues are linked. Commentators referenced the injury repeatedly during the broadcast, noting Taylor appeared restricted in his movement. He completed 19 of 34 passes for 258 yards and three touchdowns against Alabama, but also threw two interceptions and lost a fumble, with Mississippi State turning the ball over on each of its first two drives. Taylor has drawn attention during the 2026 season, with ESPN broadcaster Paul Finebaum comparing him to Dak Prescott's spell at Mississippi State before the Week 5 game and suggesting he could surpass Prescott's achievements.

Mississippi State is next scheduled to play LSU, and Lebby said the Wednesday injury report would provide further detail on Taylor's availability. The extent of the injury and its effect on Taylor's performance against Alabama remain unconfirmed.
