AMAZON LAUNCHES REDESIGNED KINDLE RANGE WITH NEW REMOTE

Amazon has launched a redesigned Kindle line-up featuring slimmer devices, flush-front displays and new colour options, alongside a range of accessories. Among the new accessories is the Kindle Click, a $34.99 Bluetooth remote that allows readers to turn pages without touching the device's screen. The entry-level Kindle has had its recessed screen removed entirely, giving it a flush-front display, and Amazon describes it as the "most pocket-sized" Kindle it has made, measuring 6.8mm thick and weighing 140 grams. It comes with 16GB of storage, a battery life of six weeks and a starting price of $150, available in Ube purple and Graphite, with an aluminium-backed version offering 32GB of storage in Alpine Sky and Seaglass Green finishes.

The new Kindle Paperwhite is thinner and lighter than its predecessor, retains its waterproof rating and adjustable warm light, and has a battery life of up to 12 weeks on a single charge, Amazon said. It is priced from $200 in Graphite with 16GB of storage. A Paperwhite Signature Edition, costing roughly $50 more, adds an aluminium back, 32GB of storage, auto-adjusting lights and double-tap page turning, available in Graphite and Seaglass Green. The Kindle Colorsoft has also been redesigned with an edge-to-edge colour display for improved clarity, with the basic 16GB version priced at $290 in Graphite.

A Colorsoft Signature Edition adds aluminium housing, 32GB of storage, an auto-adjusting front light, dock charging and double-tap page turning, Amazon said. The company said the basic Kindle is 30 percent faster at opening books than its previous entry-level model. Pricing across the range starts at $150 for the basic Kindle and rises to $290 and above for Colorsoft models. Amazon did not immediately specify UK pricing or release dates for the new range.
