ALEXANDRA EALA CONFRONTS FAN AFTER CAP THROWN AT ASIAN GAMES

Alexandra Eala confronted a fan who threw a cap at her as she left the court at the Higashiyama Park Tennis Centre on a Wednesday night during the 2026 Asian Games, according to a clip shared by a fan on Instagram. Accounts differ on which match she had just finished, with one report describing a quarterfinal singles win over Chinese Taipei's Joanna Garland and another describing an exit from the women's doubles competition. In the clip, Eala told the fan, "Sir, you shouldn't throw things at the players. If you say it nicely, I will sign for you." She then picked the cap up from the floor, signed it and handed it back to the fan. She has not commented publicly on the incident beyond what was captured on camera.

Fans seeking autographs on items such as tennis balls, T-shirts and caps is described as common practice at matches. Eala's supporters have drawn scrutiny at other tournaments this year. At the Canadian Open, her fans were reported to have applauded when Belinda Bencic made unforced errors during their match. Days earlier, during the final of the 2026 Mubadala Citi DC Open, fans were reported to have faked a sneeze during Jessica Pegula's serve in an apparent attempt to distract her, and Eala went on to win that final.

Eala's fanbase grew substantially following her run at the Miami Open last year, fuelling what has been described as "Eala Mania" among Filipino supporters around the world. Tennis has traditionally been associated with reserved crowd conduct governed by unwritten rules of decorum, and some observers have praised the more vocal support Eala's fans bring as a break from that tradition. Others have raised concerns when that enthusiasm crosses into disrespect towards opposing players. No governing body or tournament organiser was reported to have commented on the cap-throwing incident, and it remains unclear whether Eala plans to address her fans' conduct further.
