VENDEE GLOBE WINNER CHARLIE DALIN DIES AGED 42

THU 11 JUN 2026

French sailor Charlie Dalin has died at the age of 42 following a prolonged battle with cancer. Dalin won the most recent Vendée Globe race, setting a record in the process. He had been living with cancer during the period in which he completed that victory. His death was confirmed following the conclusion of his illness.

Dalin's Vendée Globe win stands as one of the most remarkable achievements in the history of the solo round-the-world race. The Vendée Globe requires competitors to circumnavigate the globe alone, without assistance and without stopping. Dalin completed the course in record time, a feat that has now taken on additional significance given the medical circumstances he faced throughout the campaign. The race, which starts and finishes in Les Sables-d'Olonne in France, is widely regarded as one of the most demanding events in sailing.

Dalin's victory and his concurrent battle with cancer drew widespread attention to both his sporting achievement and his personal resilience. His record stands in the official results of the Vendée Globe. The sailing community has lost one of its most accomplished solo ocean racers. Dalin was 42 years old at the time of his death.
