DILLON BROOKS CHARGED WITH DUI OVER MARCH ARIZONA ARREST

WED 30 SEP 2026

Prosecutors in Scottsdale, Arizona have formally charged Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks with one count of driving under the influence of liquor, drugs or vapours, a Class 1 misdemeanour, according to court records cited by media reports. The charge relates to an arrest in March, when officers stopped Brooks during a traffic stop and took him into custody. He was released following the booking process at around 3.30am. The Suns and Brooks' legal team each issued statements after the charge was filed this week, though Brooks has not personally commented on the matter either in March or since.

Officers reported smelling marijuana from Brooks' vehicle and said they observed signs of impairment during the March stop, with body-camera footage showing an officer telling him the vehicle smelled "like a dispensary." Brooks disputed the officer's account at the scene and questioned the basis for the stop. A source close to the player told ESPN's Shams Charania at the time that the arrest was marijuana-related and that Brooks passed a breathalyser test. Suns senior vice president of communications Stacey Mitch said the club had "addressed the matter with Dillon" and had no further comment, while Brooks' attorney, Larry Kazan, said his client acknowledged the charge and would allow the legal process to proceed. The Scottsdale City Attorney's Office did not respond to media requests for comment.

Police records show Brooks is due to be arraigned on 28 October, a week after the Suns are scheduled to begin their 2026-27 regular season. It remains unclear whether the case will affect his availability for games. No further court dates beyond the arraignment have been confirmed.
