DANNI BECOMES FIRST BAKER OUT OF BAKE OFF 2026

WED 30 SEP 2026 TV

Danni, an HGV service administrator from Dorset, became the first contestant eliminated from this year's Great British Bake Off. Judge Paul Hollywood criticised their cinnamon "Snickerdoodle" cookies as "powdery" during biscuit week, which aired on Channel 4 on Tuesday. Fellow judge Nigella Lawson said the biscuits contained "too much cinnamon and bicarb", adding that it was "impossible to know what you are baking if you don't taste it". Danni explained to the judges they were unable to taste their own bake because they are vegan and the recipe included cream and butter. Hairdresser Tom, from West Yorkshire, was named star baker for the same episode.

During biscuit week, contestants made American-style cookies, recreated iced gems and produced a biscuit mosaic. Speaking to BBC Radio Solent's Dorset Breakfast show after their elimination, Danni said the experience was "absolutely fantastic, on and off camera" and that they had enjoyed the technical challenges most, despite not excelling at them. They said they had not expected to make friends in the competition but found the tent "wasn't a competitive environment at all". Danni described themselves as "quite an eccentric person and quite a Marmite person" who had not previously found it easy to make friends.

Danni said they were glad to be the first eliminated because they believed the remaining bakers had more skill, describing themselves as "easily the weakest" of the contestants but adding "that isn't bad at all". They said the competition had taught them something about their ability to form friendships in the right circumstances. No further details on Danni's future plans were given in the coverage of their exit from the competition.
