A'JA WILSON CONFRONTS FAN DURING FEVER-ACES GAME TWO
A'ja Wilson became involved in a verbal exchange with a fan during the fourth quarter of the Las Vegas Aces' Game 2 against the Indiana Fever at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The Fever won the game 99-89, keeping their play-off series alive. The confrontation happened moments after Wilson tangled with Sophie Cunningham while fighting through a screen, a collision that sent Cunningham to the floor and drew a foul call. As Wilson walked down the lane following the stoppage, she turned towards a fan behind the basket and began exchanging words with him. Teammates and officials stepped in to separate them, and Wilson received a technical foul for the incident.
Speaking afterwards, Wilson said she reacts when a fan "steps towards" her and points at her, calling it unacceptable regardless of what was said or how it was said. She said she does not normally engage with fans and tries to focus on her own game. Reports following the match suggested the fan had been removed from the arena, but the Fever later issued a clarification. According to the team, arena security spoke with the fan and witnesses after a complaint about a comment directed at a player, and determined there was no breach of the venue's Fan Code of Conduct. The fan was not removed.
The series between the Fever and the Aces now moves to a deciding final game. Reaction to Wilson's comments has included criticism from some Fever supporters, who accused her of being a sore loser after the fan reportedly pointed and moved towards her. No further disciplinary action against Wilson or the fan has been reported.
