ISRAELI STRIKE KILLS TWO PALESTINIANS IN GAZA CITY

TUE 29 SEP 2026 MIDDLE EAST

An Israeli air strike and gunfire killed two Palestinians and injured several others in Gaza on Tuesday, the Palestinian news agency Wafa reported. Medical sources at Al-Shifa Hospital told Wafa that two bodies and several casualties, including children, arrived after a strike hit an apartment in the al-Nasr neighbourhood, north of Gaza City. Gaza's health ministry said separately that one Palestinian had been killed and 13 others wounded in Israeli strikes across Gaza in the previous 24 hours. It was not clear whether the ministry's tally included the al-Nasr casualties, and Wafa did not say who was responsible for the gunfire reported alongside the strike.

Al-Shifa Hospital has been one of the main facilities in Gaza City receiving casualties from strikes during the conflict, and the al-Nasr neighbourhood is among the areas that have repeatedly come under Israeli fire, according to the reports. Casualty figures issued by Wafa and the health ministry have varied in their tallies of strikes carried out on a single day. Neither report gave further detail on the identities of those killed or the extent of the children's injuries. Both accounts were based on medical and health authority sources in Gaza rather than independent verification.

The reported deaths came as dozens of mourners in Gaza buried the fragmented remains of relatives killed in a separate Israeli strike in October 2023. Footage shared on social media showed mourners grieving over the remains more than two years after that strike. The two reports illustrate the continuing toll of Israeli strikes on Gaza, from casualties recorded in the past day to remains only now being laid to rest. Neither report said what prompted the recovery and burial of the 2023 remains at this time.
