OVER 100 SETTLERS ATTACK JALUD VILLAGE, BURN PALESTINIAN HOMES

TUE 29 SEP 2026 MIDDLE EAST

More than 100 Israeli settlers attacked the village of Jalud in the northern occupied West Bank, south of Nablus, overnight into Tuesday, setting fire to two homes and several vehicles, according to residents and Israeli authorities. The homes belonged to the Tubasi family, who were returning after being displaced by earlier settler attacks around two months earlier. The attack occurred as Israeli forces tried to accompany the family back to their property under a court-ordered return. One report said three members of Israel's security forces were wounded in the violence.

Local residents attempted to confront the settlers before security forces reached the village. The Israeli military said more than 100 settlers rioted overnight, blockading roads, setting tyres alight and throwing stones at security forces, which it said prevented the family's return from being completed. Local sources said Israeli forces protected the settlers and brought in reinforcements, and that security forces later forced the Tubasi family to leave the property again at gunpoint. Homeowner Mahmoud Tubasi said the family had returned under the court order but found extensive damage, with settlers having taken over the property and blocked the family's access to it.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned what he called "violent riots" by settlers, saying on X that a "handful of rioters" did not represent what he described as the "law-abiding settler community". The attack was reported as part of a wider pattern of settler violence recorded across the occupied West Bank in recent months. No arrests were reported in connection with the attack on Jalud. It remained unclear whether the Tubasi family would be able to remain at the property.
