SAMSUNG TO INVEST $1BN IN KKR-BACKED AI INFRASTRUCTURE FIRM

TUE 29 SEP 2026 COMPANIES

Samsung Electronics and five of its affiliates have agreed to invest a combined $1 billion in Helix Digital Infrastructure, an artificial intelligence infrastructure company backed by KKR and Nvidia. Samsung Electronics confirmed on Tuesday that it would contribute $500 million of the total, with the remainder coming from Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance. The South Korean conglomerate said the deal marks a deepening of its push into the AI infrastructure market. Helix, launched in June, was founded by the global investment firm KKR.

Helix focuses on infrastructure required to support growing demand for AI, including hyperscale data centres, power generation, transmission and distribution networks, and fibre-optic infrastructure. Alongside KKR and Nvidia, its founding investors include the Kuwait Investment Authority and the US power company Vistra. The company is led by Adam Selipsky, the former chief executive of Amazon Web Services. Samsung said the investment comes as Helix seeks to address growing competition in the AI infrastructure market by targeting both data centre deployment and the power infrastructure needed to support it.

Samsung said the deal would allow it to draw on capabilities across its affiliates, spanning semiconductors, cooling systems, data centre construction and batteries. The company said this reflects its broader ambition to expand its role in the global build-out of AI infrastructure. No further financial details of the arrangement, including a timeline for the investment, were disclosed. Samsung did not specify what stake the combined $1 billion investment would secure in Helix.
