RAONI BARCELOS STABLE IN HOSPITAL AFTER LOSING CONSCIOUSNESS IN UFC FIGHT
Raoni Barcelos lost consciousness during the fifth round of his UFC Vegas 121 main event against Raul Rosas Jr, apparently as a result of a slam early in the round, according to reports of the fight. A doctor entered the Octagon to attend to him, and he was subsequently taken to hospital on a stretcher. Rosas Jr was awarded the stoppage win, marking his first victory in a UFC main event. The Brazilian fighter's collapse overshadowed the result, with attention turning to his medical condition in the hours that followed.
The UFC said in a statement that Barcelos was "immediately transported to a Level 1 trauma centre for evaluation" following the fight. The organisation said hospital staff carried out a CT scan and a broader assessment, and described him as "stable, alert, and responsive, with full movement." According to the UFC, he remained under medical supervision, with further updates promised as they became available. Sky Sports reported that Barcelos was kept in hospital overnight following the defeat.
Barcelos's head coach, Davi Ramos, posted on social media in Portuguese saying his fighter was "fine" and that "everyone can stay calm," adding that Barcelos had gone for a CT scan while his team waited nearby. UFC journalist Ariel Helwani said on social media that Barcelos had undergone CT scans and was able to speak and move his body without difficulty. Specific details of the injury that caused him to lose consciousness had not been disclosed. The UFC said it would continue to provide updates on his condition.
