MET POLICE LAUNCH MURDER PROBE AFTER E-BIKE RIDER DIES IN KENSINGTON
The Metropolitan Police has launched a murder investigation after a 24-year-old e-bike rider died following a collision with a moped in Kensington, west London. Officers believe the moped had been pursuing the e-bike before the crash, which happened at around 1am on Friday. Police were called to reports of a man found seriously injured in North Pole Road roughly 20 minutes later. The London Ambulance Service also attended, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The force is now searching for the moped rider, who has not been found.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, who is leading the investigation, said officers are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry, including efforts to identify and trace the moped rider. He said his thoughts, and those of his team, are with the victim's family "at what is a very difficult time" and that officers are working to establish exactly what happened. The Metropolitan Police has appealed for witnesses to both the collision itself and to events leading up to it, particularly anyone who saw the e-bike or the moped in the area beforehand.
The Metropolitan Police has asked anyone with information to come forward, either by calling 101 and quoting a reference number, or by contacting Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. The force has not released further details about the identities of either rider. The investigation remains ongoing, with detectives continuing to appeal for information from the public as they work to trace the moped and establish the full sequence of events.
