PRINCE HARRY SAYS IT FEELS GREAT TO BE BACK IN BRITAIN

SAT 26 SEP 2026 ROYAL

The Duke of Sussex has said it feels "great" to be back in Britain after six years living in California with the Duchess of Sussex. He told Canadian network CTV that returning to "British soil" means his children are settled in school and he can focus on next year's Invictus Games in Birmingham. Prince Harry and Meghan stepped back as senior royals in 2020 and moved to the US, returning to Britain last month. They are reported to be based at a private property in the Cotswolds.

Archie and Lilibet switched schools days after starting, after the family's security team raised concerns about traffic on the school run. Their return has been marked by reported tensions with the Royal Family, and Meghan has made few public appearances since. Harry, meanwhile, has taken part in several Invictus Games engagements, including a visit to a Birmingham school last week where he played pickleball with pupils. The Games will run in Birmingham from 10 to 17 July, with 550 wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans from 25 nations set to compete in 12 adaptive sports.

Asked what had prompted the move, Harry said there were "lots of reasons" but did not elaborate. He gave the interview after completing a skydive in Toronto to honour a promise to a 102-year-old Second World War veteran. The couple were reportedly surprised by a letter authorised by the King reiterating that they are private citizens, amid reports of a strained relationship between Harry and his father. They are still waiting to learn whether they will receive taxpayer-funded security in the UK, with the committee overseeing royal protection, Ravec, set to reconsider the matter.
