CHIEFS RULE OUT SIMMONS, CLEAR MAHOMES FOR DOLPHINS GAME
The Kansas City Chiefs have ruled out left tackle Josh Simmons for their game against the Miami Dolphins because of a back injury, according to the team's Friday injury report. Cornerback Chamarri Conner is listed as doubtful after returning to limited practice this week following a knee injury, with head coach Andy Reid saying in his Friday press conference that Conner will not play. Cornerback Mansoor Delane, who aggravated a shoulder injury during the Week 1 win over the Denver Broncos, is off the injury report and set to play. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, defensive tackle Chris Jones, cornerback L'Jarius Sneed and defensive back Jaden Hicks are also officially clear to play, according to the report.
Simmons did not practice at all this week as he continues to recover from the back injury, which followed a rookie season in which he had already missed time due to a family issue and a wrist injury. With Simmons out, the Chiefs are set to start undrafted rookie Kahlil Benson at left tackle for a third consecutive week, having moved him from right tackle. Delane was available only on an emergency basis for the Chiefs' Week 2 game against the Indianapolis Colts after his shoulder injury, but was a full participant in practice throughout this week. Jones and Sneed had both been listed as questionable in previous weeks' reports but played in both games so far this season.
Other players cleared to play include defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah, linebacker Jeff Bassa, defensive back Jadon Canady, linebacker Jack Cochrane and receiver Rashee Rice, all of whom came off the injury report on Friday. The Chiefs are seeking a 3-0 start to the regular season when they face the Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium. Reid indicated Conner could return to the team's lineup in a future game following his recovery from the knee injury.
