VRABEL SAYS MAYE AND BROWN CHEMISTRY IS WORK IN PROGRESS
New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel has described the developing on-field connection between quarterback Drake Maye and wide receiver AJ Brown as a work in progress. Vrabel confirmed the pair found each other in the red zone during a recent practice session. He emphasised that repetitions and practice time are critical for a quarterback and receiver to operate in sync. Vrabel added that Brown's experience in the league gives the Patriots an opportunity to incorporate what has worked for him previously alongside new elements.
Maye is entering his third NFL season and has worked with a different primary receiving weapon in each year so far. During his second season, he was paired with Stefon Diggs, and the two helped the Patriots reach the Super Bowl. New England has since released Diggs, who remains a free agent. Vrabel did not close the door on a potential return for Diggs to the franchise when addressing his current status.
The question of receiver chemistry carries practical weight for a young quarterback still building his game at NFL level. Vrabel stressed that professional initiative exists across all facets of the Patriots' programme, suggesting the process with Brown will follow a similar pattern to previous developments. Brown's established track record in the league means the coaching staff can draw on his accumulated experience when shaping the partnership. No timeline was given for when the connection between Maye and Brown might be considered fully established.
