FALCONS BEAT PACKERS 35-14 AS PENIX RETURNS FROM ACL INJURY

FRI 25 SEP 2026 US SPORTS

The Atlanta Falcons beat the Green Bay Packers 35-14 at Lambeau Field on Thursday night, with Bijan Robinson rushing for 194 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Michael Penix Jr made his first start since tearing the ACL in his left knee against Carolina in November, completing 18 of 25 passes for 256 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Atlanta trailed 7-0 early before scoring 27 unanswered points. Commentators described Penix's return as an impressive first start back for Atlanta. The result ended Green Bay's run of 13 straight home-opener wins, its first home-opener loss since 2012.

Wide receiver Drake London caught nine passes for 194 yards, and he and Robinson became the first Falcons teammates to each total 150 yards from scrimmage against the Packers at Lambeau Field. Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love completed 28 of 53 passes for 312 yards and two touchdowns, but Green Bay's running backs managed just 17 yards on eight carries. Atlanta outrushed Green Bay 242 yards to 17. Atlanta had struggled offensively with Cooper Rush starting at quarterback in the season's opening two weeks before Penix returned.

Green Bay's 13-game home-opener winning streak, from 2013 to 2025, had matched the NFL record shared with the Miami Dolphins, who won 13 in a row from 1976 to 1988. Green Bay's offensive line was missing left guard Aaron Banks, who had a toe injury, and right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele, who tore his patellar tendon and will miss the rest of the season. A roughing-the-passer penalty on Brenton Cox Jr wiped out an apparent third-and-11 stop for Green Bay late in the first quarter. Atlanta improved to 1-2 for the season, while Green Bay fell to 1-2.
