AUSTRALIA BEAT WEST INDIES BY SIX WICKETS IN T20 WORLD CUP WARMUP

Australia defeated West Indies by six wickets in Cardiff on Wednesday in their final warm-up match ahead of the Women's T20 World Cup. West Indies were bowled out for 131, and Australia reached 132-4 with five overs to spare. Georgia Voll top-scored with an unbeaten 77 off 48 balls, including 10 fours and two sixes. The result followed Australia's earlier warm-up victory over tournament hosts England.

Seven of Australia's eight bowlers took at least one wicket in dismissing West Indies for 131. Kim Garth took 1-13, Lucy Hamilton 2-19, Ellyse Perry 1-16, Nicola Carey 1-11, Georgia Wareham 1-10, Ash Gardner 2-17, and captain Sophie Molineux 1-19. In the chase, Beth Mooney made 34 off 18 balls before Australia retired her to allow other batters time in the middle. Perry, who had scored 64 against England, was dismissed for five, while Gardner and Wareham contributed seven and one respectively.

Australia, currently ranked number one in the world, open their World Cup campaign against South Africa. Molineux said she was pleased with how her side performed across all areas of the match. She specifically highlighted Voll's innings, noting the Queenslander had been batting well without yet posting a major score. Australia lost to South Africa in the semi-finals of the 2024 edition of the tournament, held in Dubai.
