HARVEY ELLIOTT ACCUSED OF BEING OVERWEIGHT AT VALENCIA

THU 24 SEP 2026 FOOTBALL

Liverpool have sent Harvey Elliott out on loan to Valencia for the 2026/27 season, according to reports, after Andoni Iraola did not include him in his squad plans. It is the midfielder's second loan move in successive seasons, following a difficult spell at Aston Villa last season. Spanish press covering Valencia have accused Elliott of being overweight as he works to regain fitness at the club, the reports said. Elliott made just nine appearances for Aston Villa in 2025/26 under Unai Emery. He made only one Premier League appearance in 2026 before returning to Liverpool over the summer.

Reports said Emery limited Elliott's playing time at Villa Park to avoid triggering a clause that would have turned the loan into a permanent transfer after ten appearances. Speaking to the press in September, Elliott said he had held discussions with then Valencia coach Carlos Corberan about his objectives at the club. He described the start of the season as "tricky" but said: "there's still a long way to go." Ten days after those comments, Valencia sacked Corberan, leaving Elliott without the coach with whom he had discussed his role for the campaign.

The loan comes as Valencia sit 19th in La Liga heading into the international break, having lost five of their opening seven league matches, according to reports. Elliott had been recalled by Liverpool from his Aston Villa loan over the summer before being sent out again to Valencia. Reports gave no indication of who has taken charge of Valencia's coaching following Corberan's sacking. Elliott's immediate task, according to the reports, is to regain full fitness and establish himself at his new club before the season progresses further.
