HIBERNIAN APPOINT MARINK REEDIJK AS NEW MANAGER
Hibernian have appointed Marink Reedijk as their new manager, the Scottish Premiership club has confirmed. The Dutch coach replaces David Gray, who was sacked eight days ago after a difficult start to the season. Reedijk will be assisted at Easter Road by Rogier Molhoek. Hibernian said Reedijk, who described himself as "honoured" to take the role, arrives with a reputation for attacking football and building a strong team culture. Reedijk said he wants Hibernian to be an "assertive" side that gives supporters "something to really get behind."
Reedijk spent the past two seasons as head coach of Belgian club Beveren, winning promotion to the top flight last season with an unbeaten campaign before leaving in the summer. He previously held academy roles at Ajax and West Bromwich Albion, and worked with senior teams at KSV Roeselare, Vitesse and RSCA Futures. Sporting director Malky Mackay said the appointment was not about "changing the direction" of the club's strategy but about "continuing to evolve it." Mackay described Reedijk's teams as "proactive, high energy and dynamic" and praised his ability to develop players within a strong collective environment.
Hibernian are currently 10th in the Scottish Premiership, having won two of their opening seven league matches this season, and have been eliminated from the Conference League. Under Gray, the club finished third in the 2024-25 season and fifth the following term. Gray also led Hibernian to the League Cup semi-finals, where they are due to face city rivals Hearts in November. Mackay said the club had begun the process with a clear idea of the type of team and manager it wanted, and that Reedijk's philosophy and leadership style were "strongly aligned" with that vision.
