KARMELO ANTHONY APPEALS 35-YEAR MURDER CONVICTION

THU 11 JUN 2026 CRIME

Karmelo Anthony has appealed his murder conviction after being sentenced to 35 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf at a Dallas-area track meet. The same jury that convicted Anthony of murder handed down the 35-year sentence on the same day. Anthony was found guilty of murdering Metcalf during the track meet in 2025. The stabbing took place in the Dallas area of Texas.

The case drew significant attention following the killing of Metcalf, who was 17 years old at the time of his death. Anthony was a peer of Metcalf and was present at the track meet when the stabbing occurred. A jury returned the guilty verdict before proceeding to sentencing. Anthony was 19 years old at the time of sentencing.

Anthony's legal representatives have now lodged a formal appeal against the murder conviction. The appeal follows a sentence of 35 years, which was determined by the jury rather than a judge alone. The conviction and sentencing took place within a single court session. The appeal process will now proceed through the relevant Texas courts.
