HARRY KANE SAYS HE STILL HOPES TO KICK IN NFL

THU 24 SEP 2026 FOOTBALL

Harry Kane has said he still hopes one day to play in the NFL as a placekicker, in comments reported by The Athletic. The Bayern Munich forward said the idea remains a genuine long-term ambition, dependent on how his career develops over the next five to six years. He was speaking after Bayern Munich beat Celtic 2-1 in the first leg of their Champions League play-off tie in Glasgow. Kane said he would ideally like to combine the two sports, playing in the NFL alongside a move to Major League Football, given the different timing of the two seasons.

Kane said his experience taking penalties gave him a technique and temperament suited to placekicking, describing the pressure as similar to that of a game-winning field goal. He said that if he pursued the switch seriously, he would want to dedicate six months to a year of training beforehand, acknowledging that elite sports "look easy" on television but are harder in practice. He also said he had previously considered a career in golf but now regards the NFL as the more realistic option of the two. No NFL team has made him an offer.

Kane would not be the first footballer to attempt such a switch. Brandon Aubrey moved from Toronto FC in MLS to become a placekicker for the Dallas Cowboys, while former England player Clive Allen played for the London Monarchs in NFL Europe in 1997. Kane has previously spoken of his admiration for former NFL quarterback Tom Brady. For now, Kane's comments confirm only that the ambition persists, with no concrete move to American football planned.
