HAITI FORCED TO CHANGE WORLD CUP KIT DAYS BEFORE SCOTLAND OPENER

WED 10 JUN 2026 FOOTBALL

Haiti have been required to change their World Cup kit design four days before their opening group match against Scotland after FIFA ruled the shirt violated its equipment regulations. The original design featured an illustration of the Battle of Vertières in 1803, the engagement that secured Haitian independence, alongside the country's flag. FIFA's regulations prohibit the use of any political, religious, or personal messages or slogans on match kit. The design had already appeared in both of Haiti's pre-tournament friendly matches.

Colombian manufacturer Saeta produced the original shirt and described the illustration as a tribute to the men and women who contribute every day to Haiti's future. In a statement, the company said the design was not intended as a political statement. FIFA determined that certain visual elements could be interpreted differently under its equipment regulations and requested modifications. Saeta confirmed it respected the process and implemented the final changes communicated by FIFA.

Haiti face Scotland at Boston Stadium in Foxborough at 02:00 BST on Sunday in their first World Cup campaign in 52 years. They are placed in Group C alongside five-time winners Brazil and Morocco. Haiti's only previous World Cup appearance came in 1974, when they lost all three group stage matches and conceded 14 goals. The revised kit will be worn throughout the tournament under FIFA's confirmed requirements.
