TWO PILOTS INJURED AS RAF TRAINING JET CRASHES IN WALES
Two pilots have been injured after an RAF training jet crashed near RAF Valley in the Pencarnisiog area of Anglesey, North Wales Police said. The crash happened on Tuesday afternoon close to the village of Rhosneigr, according to one report. Both pilots are believed to have ejected from the aircraft before it came down. Police said the pair were being treated for what were thought to be minor injuries. Officers said there had been no reports of any wider damage or injuries at that stage.
Emergency crews at the scene included the Royal Air Force, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service and the Welsh Ambulance Service University NHS Trust, police said. Coastguard and Wales Air Ambulance helicopters also attended, alongside Helimed, according to North Wales Police. Flight-tracking data cited by one report showed two air ambulances leaving the scene that afternoon. Witnesses said they saw flames coming from the aircraft, which one report identified as a Hawk T2 training jet, before it crashed near Rhosneigr. North Wales Police asked the public to avoid the area until further notice.
RAF Valley, on the island of Anglesey, serves as a training base for the RAF's fighter pilots. The Ministry of Defence has been asked to comment on the crash. North Wales Police said the situation was ongoing and that further updates would be issued when appropriate. No details of what caused the aircraft to come down have yet been given by police or the Ministry of Defence.
