MCCONAUGHEY AND HARRELSON DESCRIBE PHYSICAL FIGHTS IN FRIENDSHIP
Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson have described physical fights during their three-decade friendship, saying blood has been drawn on more than one occasion. McConaughey told Entertainment Weekly, "Blood has been drawn. No broken bones. Blood has been drawn, though, and will be drawn again." Harrelson said McConaughey suffered a chipped tooth and a cracked lip during one such fight. McConaughey said the injury happened when Harrelson "accidentally overswung" and struck him in the jaw, joking that Harrelson knows "exactly where every part of his body is." Harrelson said the pair "butt heads" often but ultimately "love each other," adding that they resolve disputes by hugging and sharing a drink.
The two actors are reuniting for Brothers, an eight-episode Apple TV series in which they play fictionalised versions of themselves in a family mystery, with the characters wondering whether they could actually be brothers. McConaughey told The Hollywood Reporter the idea grew out of a real conversation in Greece in 2017, when his mother, Kay "Ma Mac" McConaughey, told Harrelson she had "known" his father around the time McConaughey was conceived. McConaughey said the story became a running joke between the two families over the following years. He said Harrelson eventually suggested turning the story into a television show, and McConaughey agreed it was "kind of a good idea."
McConaughey has ruled out taking a DNA test to settle the question raised by his mother's remark. He told The New York Times earlier this month that doing so could mean learning that "your dad's not your dad that you thought your dad was for 50 years." The pair previously starred together in True Detective. Brothers is set to be released on Apple TV, according to the actors.
